The Photography of Allison Spurlock

Allison Spurlock is a photographer living and working in Seattle WA. Her photos are a documentation of the world existing in time, simultaneously a celebration and rejection of the static image. You can see more at: www.flickr.com/alliemerriweather

science is fiction

Science is Fiction is a compilation of film shorts by Jean PainlevĂ© (1902-1989).  Yo La Tengo did the sound track The Sounds of Science for this film, which June told me she got to see them play it live the other night.  These shorts are observations he made (with some manipulation, of course) of mainly various sea creatures.  One of my favorites, however, is the liquid crystals formation.  It's so awesome!

Irma Gonzalez

Just saw a short on Irma Gonzalez, professional woman wrestler/singer/songwriter.

The screaming gets a little intense, so I recommend muting that after a while and listening to this for maximizing your viewing pleasure. Her songs are no where to be found, which is a damn shame since they were pretty good.

P.S. If I ever become a woman wrestler, I'm shaving my head.

Dr. Skinnybones

Dr. Skinnybones is the one man brain child of Jake Williams. Jake is a founding member of The Chocolate Jesus, an underground band based in New York City where he lives with his brother Burke. Dr. Skinnybones has been affiliated with the Luck You Collective and described as "god's gift to women." In a recent review music critic Lucas Baumgart was quoted as saying: "Dr. Skinnybones takes you to the mental bonezone." (his credentials could not be verified.) Click here to visit the Dr. Skinnybones home page and listen to all his/their music. http://www.drskinnybones.com/

little world

Last week my sister, Tasha, let me take photos of herself and her apartment.  Often times when I am over there, she has created what she likes to call, "a little world".  Tasha has many little worlds and is always making more.  When I took these photos I didn't have her little worlds in mind, but when I look at these pictures, I am reminded of Tasha's many little worlds.  I guess if these objects had a place in Tasha's worlds, they would be the ghosts of the little worlds that were once fresh and new, who are still quietly calling out for attention.

haiku for a fallen friend

Oh ill-fated bird
Guts smeared across the pavement
Bet you feel exposed
